Even though NERC and the ISOs have not identified any new GADS mandated changes for 2013, we highly recommend that you install this update because this release includes cumulative minor updates since the major release in December 2011. If you are a non-North American user, you generally will not be affected by these minor changes unless you indicate that you are planning to submit data to NERC in the Unit Setup Console software.
Therefore, you should consider updating your current version if you are experiencing any issues with your currently installed version; however, if you are not having issues and/or have installed the minor updates over the last 12 months, you may not need to install this update.
If you do install any of the module updates, we recommend a full update of ALL GADS/OS apps.

Except for bug fixes, the next major release is currently scheduled for approximately May 2013 to follow any mid-year NERC updates.
The current GADS OS Windows version is built on Microsoft Framework 3.5 SP1 which was released on November 18, 2008 and whose support will end on January 13, 2015.
We also have available two new release candidate versions for installation: a WPF GADS OS standalone version and a WPF GADS OS XBAP version. They can be downloaded at http://gadsopensource.com/WPF.aspx . You can also install either or both of them as needed.
These are also being released as a set of free and open source software tools and licensed under the same GNU General Public License Version 2.
The WPF GADS OS standalone version is a Windows application and will replace the current Windows version on January 1, 2014. This will allow for a 1 year "grace period" before there will no longer be Microsoft support for the current version on January 13, 2015.
WPF XAML browser applications (XBAPs) combine features of both Web applications and Windows rich-client applications. Like Web applications, XBAPs can be deployed to a Web server and started from Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, or Firefox. This supersedes the old GADS NxL web-based version.
We still support Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle databases.
What we are working on for the next updates in priority order:
1. A new report that shows the Operating Hours between Outages. It will include startup date/time (breaker closed), stop date/time (breaker opened) and hours online for each continuous run on a unit basis.
2. Expanded data collection and reporting for jointly owned units.
3. Adding capability to create the Generation Equipment Status upload file for the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) Equipment Reliability
